Bob Saget was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Anne Brodzinsky and Joseph Saget. His family is Jewish.
He grew up in the Willingboro Township in New Jersey, where he knew fellow comedian/actor Jim Gaffigan when they were teenagers. He attended Temple University briefly from September 1979 to May 1980. His father was an executive at KYW-TV in Philadelphia during channel 3’s early years. Saget attended Temple University’s film school for four semesters until February 1984 and left without earning a degree. For two seasons, beginning in 1990, Saget hosted America’s Funniest Home Videos on ABC network (and co-hosting with Daisy Fuentes on the Spanish language version for Telemundo, (Un Homenaje al Corazon – An Tribute to the Heart)). He also played Dr. Peter Venkman in the animated series The Real Ghostbusters (1986-1991). Saget was nominated for several Emmys, and won four times. He appeared in Denny’s “night court” commercials as a defendant shown before Judge Reinhold represented by attorney Clarence Odbody (played by Stephen Furst) who got his guilty verdict overturned.
Saget succeeded Tom Bergeron as host of America’s Funniest Home Videos in 2001 after Bergeron left due to a contract dispute with ABC.In 2000 he co-starred on the CBS sitcom **Dharma & Greg** as the titular character’s father and appeared in one episode of Law and Order, SVU (he would later play a murder suspect on an episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent).
Saget directed the 2006 TV Land sitcom pilot **Retired at 35** that starred Fran Drescher. It was not chosen for production; instead, Saget went back to concentrating on AFV. He has since made guest appearances in numerous TV series such as Boston Legal (appearing alongside former co-star Conchata Ferrell), How I Met Your Mother Two and a Half Men, The War at Home Entourage, CSI: Miami and Law and Order: Criminal Intent.
He is the host of **The Gong Show with Dave Attell** on Comedy Central. Reruns of this show are now airing on GSN TV (Game Show Network), with new commentary from Saget. Saget provided the voice for the character Danny on **Danny Phantom, an animated series on Kids’ WB, alongside David Faustino (who plays his son). He is currently starring as Frankie’s dad, Robert “Bobby” Munson, in FX’s Sons Of Anarchy, and has shot a pilot for a new ABC sitcom called **The Knights of Prosperity**.
Saget was the star of and executive producer of Farce of the Penguins, which was released direct-to-video on April 4, 2006. It is a spoof of March Of The Penguins. He has also starred in several films such as Lovers and Other Strangers (with Mark Linn-Baker), Dirty Work (co-starring Artie Lange and Norm MacDonald) with Adam Sandler in 1999, Scary Movie 4 , The Aristocrats , and both **Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights** and Disney’s **The Country Bears**. In 2005 he played a dramatic role in the film **Over The Hedge** as a scheming boss, Mr. Weenie.
Many of his roles are in comedies with R-rated content, however he has also done dramatic work. His most famous dramatic role is that of the powerful, yet humble District Attorney in **The Defenders (2004).
