Eddie Murphy is an American actor, comedian, writer, singer and director. Murphy was a regular cast member on Saturday Night Live from 1980 to 1984. He has worked as a stand-up comedian and was ranked #10 on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.

Murphy was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Lillian, a telephone operator, and Charles Edward Murphy, a transit police officer. His father was Irish American and his mother was black.

Murphy first gained attention as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. He went on to star in Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America and Trading Places. He also voiced donkey in the Shrek series.

He has also worked as a stand-up comedian and was ranked #10 on Comedy Central’s list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time.
